New entrants may be enrolled on their fifth birthday. Remember it is necessary to provide verification of birth date, and a copy of the child’s immunisation record. C.V.P.S. has a pre-entry programme which gives opportunity for parents to visit the Junior team with their child, and for the child to visit on their own.
Come into the office and ask for an Enrolment Pack which will contain:
Clutha Valley School Emergency Information/Enrolment Form 2025. We ask that parents fill in one of these for each child at the school and regularly update information regarding emergency contacts, health issues, cell phones, etc. which can change from year to year.
Transport Safety Form. For when parents are asked to provide transport for various activities. To cover both the school and yourself when transporting students to and from school.
School Transport: Application for Assistance. Every child who travels to school on a school bus must have Section A of this form filled in.
Birth Certificate. We take a photocopy of this to confirm enrolment and for our records.
Immunisation Certificate. We take a photocopy of this for our records.
The Board of Trustees has approved a regulation school uniform, the wearing of which became a school rule in January 2004. The appearance of students is expected to reflect credit on the school at all times, therefore there is an expectation that the uniform will be worn correctly and neatly. The uniform encourages greater pride in our school, ensures a sense of equality and is recognised favourably beyond the school. The school uniform is to be worn at all times unless the Principal says otherwise.
The Warehouse supplies most of the uniform items. There are also second-hand uniforms along with new culottes available at the school. Please contact the school office for more information.
All uniform items must be clearly named.
Footwear
For safety and practical reasons, appropriate footwear should be worn at all times for class activities and sport. Dark coloured (black, brown, navy, grey) shoes or sandals are recommended. Sports shoes are considered appropriate.
Students are permitted to bring slippers to school to wear inside during the winter months.
Sports uniform
Sports top (issued by the school for Y5-8 students) and navy shorts. For personal health and hygiene reasons it is recommended that senior students change into their sports uniform for sport or physical education.
Jewellery/accessories
The wearing of jewellery/accessories is limited to:
The wearing of studs or sleepers (not more than 12mm) in the earlobes only
Functional jewellery such as watches and medic alert bracelets
Cultural or religious items that can be worn underneath polo tops and do not detract from the uniform (as approved by the principal)
Hair accessories are to be plain (navy where possible)

Most children at CVPS travel to and from school on a bus. When you enrol your child, you will be able to find out the bus route they will be going on.
For the safety of the students, all children must wear the hi-viz vest provided by the school.
If children are not traveling to school on their bus in the morning, parents are asked to contact the bus driver or get someone who gets on the bus before their children to give the bus driver a message.
All children must attend bus assembly after school, whether or not they are travelling on the bus. This includes occasions when children are being collected after school. (Bus assembly takes place out on the front court, where children line up by their bus' coloured star to get ticked off by the bus monitors.)
If parents wish their child to travel home on another bus, please contact the bus driver as some buses are relatively full and requests may be refused. Once the bus driver confirms that there is space on the bus, please contact the school and advise us of bus changes.
Where your child has regular after school commitments, parents are asked to fill out the form attached to the newsletter at the beginning of the term.
Notes for changes to daily bus routines are to be placed in the bus folders which are located in the reception. Parents are also welcome to leave messages in these folders.
If you need to make an unexpected change to your child’s after school bus arrangements, please ensure that you telephone the school prior to 3.00pm.
If the school has not been contacted your child/children will be sent home on their usual bus.
Each year bus monitors are chosen for each bus route.
Each bus has a teacher in charge of loading at the end of the day. If there are any issues with the bus, please contact the appropriate teacher.

If your child is absent from school we legally require to be notified that they will be away either by a phone call, an email or the 'report an absence' option via our HERO platform, with an explanation for the absence. Caregivers will be contacted by phone shortly after school commences if there has not been a message informing the school of the child’s absence. If no contact can be made on any of the numbers we have on hand then our legal obligation means we have to consider the next appropriate course of action. Therefore it is important emergency contacts are kept current. Your help and understanding with this school responsibility is much appreciated.
It is important that parents encourage children to be punctual and regular in their attendance at school, to foster positive attitudes and ensure progress is maintained.
We encourage parents to make appointments for their children out of school hours to ensure they are not missing out on any learning.

CHROMEBOOKS
As in the past, we are recommending purchasing a chromebook for your child from Year 4 up. We already carry out online assessments with students from Year 5 to Year 8. However, this year the government is encouraging online assessments be carried out with students from Year 3 to Year 8. Having a chromebook available for your child would ensure they become familiar with the device before they have to sit these assessments twice yearly. Please consider using the generous PTA Chromebook subsidy as outlined below.
CVPS PTA Chromebook Subsidy Guidelines
Clutha Valley PTA has agreed to make a one-off payment to students of $150 subsidy towards the purchase of their chromebook to align with Clutha Valley Primary School, Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy.
These guidelines have been developed in order to make the subsidy process fair and
transparent.
Guidelines:
One subsidy per child during their enrolment at Clutha Valley Primary School
Students must be Year 4 and above.
Subsidies for students in Year 8 must be applied before 30th June.
Subsidy payments will be paid into the bank account of the purchaser.
Attached to this request please include:
Name of child
Age and School Year of child
Bank Account details of the purchaser.
Copy of invoice (photocopy, photograph, or scanned copy accepted).
Correct documentation to be emailed to the school office.
(office@cluthavalley.school.nz) attention: CVPS PTA Treasurer/Chromebook Subsidy, or
a copy can be left at the school (c/o CVPS PTA Treasurer).
Payment:
Payment will be made within 2 weeks of receiving the correct documentation into the bank
account provided.
Any queries, please discuss with any member of the CVPS PTA, school teachers, or principal.
A BYOD user agreement must be signed by the student, parent/caregiver and the school prior to personal devices being used at school. You can download the user agreement by clicking here.
The complaints policy is included in the school newsletter once a term and can also be viewed here or downloaded from the link here.
Remember - please contact the classroom teacher in the first instance if it is a matter relating to your child's learning.
It is important that new entrants are familiar with the surroundings to which they are coming. The Kōwhai Team teacher will make arrangements with you for your child to visit the school and spend several mornings with the class prior to his/her 5th birthday. A transition programme operates on a fortnightly basis for 4 year old children.
For more information please contact Fiona Wilson at fiona@cluthavalley.school.nz
